The third annual FISD varsity volleyball tournament was a great success for our schools and volleyball programs.
FHS Jackrabbit and NFHS Falcon Varsity and JV teams competed well in the thirty-two team tournament with both varsity teams earning berths in the championship bracket, and FHS taking third overall. The FHS JV team also won the consolation bracket. Teams played games on three campuses and on eight different courts on Thursday and Saturday.
All teams got numerous competitive games to help prepare for the upcoming district race, with our own JV teams being the only non-varsity level competitors entered. Home tournaments give kids, coaches, and fans an opportunity to get these critical early season games here on home courts.
These events also give boosters an opportunity to raise funds through concessions, and the programs themselves to generate revenue after the expenses of the event (officials, workers, etc.) are paid. This makes parent and community volunteers critical to tournament success, and so a special thanks goes to all the people that worked to make it possible.
Other added benefits of such tourneys include reduced transportation costs, showcase of our fine schools and community, and generation of business for Forney at large as hundreds of teams members and fans converge here to compete.
Congratulations to all on a great event in 2014!
