Senior Delaney Welch – Lady Rabbit Soccer Varsity Player of the Week
When did you start playing soccer?
I started playing soccer at the age of 3, but honestly, I was kicking a soccer ball as soon as I could walk.
What is your favorite quote?
My favorite quote is by Michael Jordan and it states, “You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them”. I love this quote because it’s saying you have to believe in yourself before you can make your dreams come true. I believe this is something everybody should live by.
Who do you look up to?
I look up to my parents because they have shown me how successful you can become even if you don’t come from a lot. They have always shown me to always put my everything into what I do, so I can at least say that I gave it my best.
Future plans?
I plan on attending Texas Tech University to major in Kinesiology as well as minoring in Business. I will work underneath someone while I build up my clientele, then I will open up my own chiropractic practice.
What is the coolest thing you’ve ever done?
The coolest thing I have ever done is having the opportunity to meet race car legend, John Petty. I met him when I was at a Nascar race. We went down to the pit at Motorplex and took pictures with him and went inside of his trailer. I also got to walk along the track and see many different pit sections. It was definitely an amazing experience.
What do you like about high school soccer?
What I like about high school soccer is: the special bonds you get to make with your teammates.
What’s the best advice you’ve received?
The best advice that I have ever received is to not put off certain tasks and/or challenges, that you should take them head-on right then and there. I got this advice from my Nana and it has stuck with me since.
Coach Williamson’s thoughts on Delaney:
Delaney is a very special player. I consider her a ball hawk. She excels at winning possession of the ball. It doesn’t matter whether the ball is on the ground or the air…Delaney will track it down. She is a tough competitor. She could likely play anywhere on the field. Her specialty is playing defensive midfielder. She does a lot of the grunt work without receiving all of the glory. She is a 4-year letterman and without a doubt a leader on our team.
